THENETNG PUBLISHES 65 PEOPLE, PLACES, EVENTS AND THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR IN 2012

resh, New Year for us to rock and roll, isn’t it? All of 12 sweet months for us enjoy. But the year 2012 means different things to different people.
Depending on who and where you are, the new year could bring excitement, landmark opportunities, loads of new music, movies, books and gadgets,  long-needed inventions, change in living conditions, and, we pray not, calamities.
We don’t want anxiety to overwhelm you – so our editors got together to compile you a list of some of the key people we think will rule the year. How ’bout that?
1. 2012 PHENOMENON
The 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of eschatological beliefs, according to which cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on December 21, 2012. Various astronomical alignments and numerological formulae related to this date have been proposed. A New Age inaterpretation of this transition is that this date marks the start of time in which Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world. So as we expect ‘apocalypse’ 2012, one only wonders what happened to the predictions for year 2000!
2. 360 NOBS
Already becoming one of Nigeria’s more popular lifestyle sites, 360nobs.com will gain further ground in 2012 if it continues at a fast pace. Their music section and the popular ‘Memoirs of a Slush kid’ written by Noble Igwe should help 360 Nobs increase traffic and establish a loyal fan-base.

All eyes are on the former World Bank star; especially as most Nigerians have concluded that Mr President is clueless.
46. NOLLYWOOD
Experts say Nollywood will officially clock 20 years in 2012. While this remains subject to debate, we’re wondering already if this is cause for celebration, reflection, or what? 58. TWITTER
Twitter has shown no signs of slowing down. With 200 million tweets per day, the micro-blogging site has become the hot-spot where news is disseminated at the speed of light. With no direct competition, 2012 is likely going to be another successful year for Twitter. And with recent reports of Saudi Prince Alwaleed pumping in $300M, the business could now be heading towards being profitable?
59. US ELECTIONS

The travel agency, owned by parent company Zeep Travel Network (founded by ex NBA star Obinna Ekezie), has emerged with big budget and fanfare, providing researching, planning and purchasing opportunities for travellers. But pundits are watching to see how well the model will survive and thrive, in a system where internet access remains a major challenge
63. WANDE COAL
The chubby singer dropped three new singles days before 2011 ended. As he works to present his new album in the New Year he is set to claim pole position as Nigeria’s quintessential pop artiste. The Mo’ Hits artiste will also be definitely involved with D’Banj’s work with Kanye West.
64. WEIRD MC
Weird MC is finally ready to release her long awaited third solo album. It’ll be seven years in 2012, since she last released a full LP. And we’re waiting and watching, to see how the ‘rappatainer’ returns to the top of her game.
65. W4
For years W4 was one proverbial hit away from stardom. He finally got his hit ‘Wa gba kontrol’ in 2011. In 2012, there should be no looking back as his hunger for fame and stardom (which have until now eluded him) should push him to come up with bigger hits
