MARY J. BLIGE ON MARRIAGE

“I just want to remind everybody how far we’ve come, because everybody can get so down on themselves. And we’re not perfect. We’re never going to be perfect.”

Mary J. Blige the ‘Queen of Hip Hop Soul,’  has been so open and vocal about overcoming her personal struggles over the years that has earned her a place in the hearts of her fans and fellow artists. Her personal drama has made many headlines and interviews. Nine Grammy’s and Six Multi-platinum albums later, she caught up with CBS News to discuss her latest release ‘My Life 2′, as well as how she overcame the ‘Mary’ of the past while revealing that she didn’t think she was worthy of being married to a man like Kendu.\

An excerpt from the interview:

Now that she’s a veteran in the game, Mary is in a place where she not only loves her life and her career, but herself.
“I enjoy it more now. Because now I can see it. And I know what it is. But when I was younger, I didn’t know what the heck was going on. I was just singing for my life!
“I was running and hurting, and the only thing was coming out was pain. So now I’m enjoying my life because I know who I am.”
“I’m Mary Jane Blige. Jane Blige! You know, that’s it. I know who I am. I am not perfect. I’m not the most beautiful woman in the world. But I’m one of them.”
